kate spade, kate smade

this would have been horribly perfect to have bought before coming to london. everyone in my school and halls are basically each from a different country so people seem to learn where you are from before they learn your name (I guess the accent probably helps). So most people just refer to you as 'the swede' or 'the indian' or 'the american', in my case. But usually they remembered new york, so it's been 'oh yah, you're the girl from new york.' if only I had that scarf I could reply 'pshhhttt that's Miss New York to you, bitch!' nothing like reinforcing self-centered new yorker stereotypes! I think it could only be worn with a sense of humor, and never while actually in ny.

it could be kind of nice too, like you are missing new york, with a scarf to remind you of there

p.s. miss kate spade, how much is that scarf, it's not on the website

I feel like there are a million illustrators with styles similar to this,

LIFE

google is now hosting images from LIFE magazine, so that means thousands of LIFE photographs in hi-res form, like the above image of ballet students standing in the window of the School of American Ballet in 1936. if you add "source:life" to the end of your google image search it will search through the LIFE archive.

my favorite commercial

since "mr. barky von schnauzer," notice the manic tone in the mom's voice as she screams bloody hell. she totally ends up murdering toby in the director's cut of this piece of art.

dear cnn,

I think this should be played in the corner of every report on the economy from here on out. no, i think every report on the economy should narrate this clip on loop so people won't want to jump in front of traffic.

We should probably invest in one of these.

And get paid to sabotage mini-horse shows by letting our mini-horse run around ape-shit to ruin the other mini-horses' mini-dreams of winning mini-show-ribbons.

James Montalbano hit the big time.

New freeway signs in Northeast Ohio to be more readable

My parents just informed me that this made the front page of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. (the main newspaper)

Sure, they could report about our city basically dying, having absolutely zero jobs, and rampant violence on the streets,
but no, in Cleveland, none of that matters, we focus on the positive.
Move over Lebron James, there is a new James in town,
and he has made the city streets more legible, and that is a beautiful thing.

___
note to anyone that reads this other than becky and I. James Montalbano was our digital lettering and typography design teacher at Parsons.

I miss new york.

156. Drivers in brooklyn blasting t-pain at 3am
157. Said driver's bass setting off every car alarm they drive by
158. Random angry person smashing in three cars' windows on the street a floor below us
159. Genuine fear of being hacked by a machete

The list could go on for miles.
I really do miss it.

especially...

160. Being able to do anything you could possibly want to do at any possible time of day or night...

genevieve gauckler

i forgot that one of my favorite illustrators, genevieve gauckler, has a blog, and a show, and vinyl toys inspired by said show.  this is the illustrator that made my brother ask me if i did a lot of acid when he saw her stuff as the background on my computer a few years ago. i wonder the same about him ever since i saw an issue of "american rifleman" (the NRA's magazine) floating around my house this past summer.
